Growing a Critter

We’re growing him on the outside now

one month old! September 20, 2007

Yep, the little guy is a full month old as of today, and he’s doing well. We took him in for his one-month checkup today and of course, we had tons of questions. Many of them had to do with his diapers, so I’ll skip that for the public update here. You’re welcome.

The big highlight (and I do mean BIG) is that he’s a big guy. He’s 11.25 pounds, which is the 95th percentile for weight, and 21 inches, which is the 25th percentile for length. So, basically, he’s a hobbit. He’s short-round, he’s husky, he’s our big baby. I’ll be taking suggestions for his hobbit name in the comments. Get creative!

He’s not sleeping as much as he did initially, his eyes are open much more, and he’s already outgrown some of his clothes (obviously). He has smiled in his sleep from the beginning, but I can tell that he’s getting ready to consciously smile AT us very soon. I was giving him raspberries and I could tell that he wanted to smile and laugh, he just can’t control it yet. I’m really looking forward to that first smile!

We’ve had some rough nights when one or both of us got pretty much zero sleep and had a tough day the next day. We definitely went through that Tuesday night and Wednesday, but today was much better, thank goodness!

He’s starting to stir, so I’ll close. Don’t forget hobbit name suggestions for our big boy!

Your critter has already outgrown ours! In weight, anyway…ours is long and scrawny. 🙂 Glad to hear he is doing well. The first smiles are magical!

    Sam Wise Ginormo? Fro Dough?

The Critter has far outgrown my friend Miller’s baby girl who is a whole month older than he is–she’s just over nine pounds! But who cares! It’s wonderful that he’s so big and healthy and terrific.

Will work on the hobbit name. I’m not sure I can top Fro Dough, though.

WOW! He IS a big boy! Compared to Voldemort, who is still in the 10th-20th % for weight, the Critter could completely take him on and win. Wow!

    Pictures pictures, more pictures!

I guess the nursing is going well! I must admit I am not a hobbit fan – how about No-Da (as in Yoda?)
