Critter’s pa, here. The following note was sent to a friend of ours who knows about these things. We solicit guidance from all quarters, though, so…
we have been cast on TELEVISION (it’s the future of moving pictures, you know). emeril (he of the BAM, and of the notches kicked up, etc.) is hosting a new show on the the new discovery subnetwork, planet green. the premise is that emeril helps you solve a cooking problem having to do with weird challenges and sustainability (more at http://planetgreen.discovery.com/food-health/emeril-green-casting-call.html). the [quasi-anonymous family is] going to the beach this summer and brings about a hundred dietary preferences, tastes, and restrictions (ranging from seafood-averse sisters to buddhist brothers-in-law to no-dairy Critter). emeril will SOLVE ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS!!!!
ok. so, they’re doing a location shoot at our house this weekend (no emeril), and we’ll film the emeril invents the perfect meal for us segment at a whole foods with a studio kitchen in a few weeks.
we have basic guidance on what to wear (no black or white, rich colors and simple patterns are good).
natalie has a friend who does this kind of tv often (he goes on martha stewart to talk about bugs in your backyard, etc.), and he says to tell funny stories, instead of listing tastes, making speeches, etc.
what wisdom can you give us?
aaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!
televisually,
d
I am both stoked and horrified by this opportunity to have fun on the teevees and to help (and be helped) with sustainable food practices while being part of a family whose home will be very much exposed to, well, a wider viewership than is typical.

I am jealous that you get to have fun on the teevees. Just don’t tell that funny story about where thank yuns comes from and you’ll be all right. Sorry I can’t come kick it with you and Emeril.
So cool! Unfortunately, the only stories I can think of would involve either meeting Bradley Whitford/the West Wing taping, MDS&W, or bush meat… yeah, definitely talk about THAT!! Yum!!
SoooOOOooooo cool. I was on TV once. (Forgot to tell that story on Sunday evening, sorry!) The advantage you have over my experience is that you can be prepared. I was basically snuck up on.
Have fun!
All of my TV experience has been as professional spokesperson where my job is on the line if I screw up (OK, probably not actually fired, but you never know!), so I’m a bit TV-averse! I’m sure Emeril will not be asking the hard questions, though, so you all should have a wonderful time!
I meant to add, I love the tags for this entry. It is indeed FAME. And yes, you are gonna live forever!
Stories? Well, there was this one time when we picked on you about marshmallows. Oh! or the time we tormented you with mayo! or the meringue!
such isolated incidents…isnt it good we only picked on you occasionally?
I cannot WAIT to hear how it went!
I’m sure you guys were naturals. From my vast PR experience, the only important thing about appearing on TV is to make sure you don’t freak-out and start screaming your home phone number. I hope they got a shot of darling critter!
